Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Industrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.38% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Storagevault Canada Inc (TSX:SVI), which rose 11.79% or 0.46 points to trade at 4.36 at the close. Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u) added 6.82% or 1.03 points to end at 16.14 and Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX:STLC) was up 5.02% or 1.68 points to 35.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which lost 10.27% or 3.59 points to trade at 31.36 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC) declined 7.22% or 0.61 points to end at 7.84 and Waste Connections Inc (TSX:WCN) shed 6.62% or 12.55 points to 176.94.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 556 to 417 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.12% to 18.04 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 0.90 to $1,995.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.07% or 1.77 to hit $83.62 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.94% or 1.75 to trade at $88.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.16% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 106.44.
