Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Utilities and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.37%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which rose 5.69% or 1.20 points to trade at 22.30 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) added 5.21% or 0.19 points to end at 3.84 and Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS) was up 4.30% or 0.17 points to 4.12 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS), which lost 7.64% or 0.46 points to trade at 5.56 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) declined 5.10% or 1.16 points to end at 21.58 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) shed 4.61% or 5.07 points to 105.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 502 to 469 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.32% to 18.11.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.39% or 46.50 to $1,996.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.02% or 1.43 to hit $69.47 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.05 to trade at $75.44 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.24.
