Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG), which rose 4.28% or 0.29 points to trade at 7.06 at the close. Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u) added 3.64% or 1.07 points to end at 30.50 and Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) was up 3.28% or 1.04 points to 32.78 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which lost 13.55% or 1.47 points to trade at 9.38 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC) declined 6.65% or 0.56 points to end at 7.86 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) shed 5.78% or 0.55 points to 8.97.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 688 to 313 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.27% to 17.58 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.49% or 9.85 to $1,984.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.27% or 2.00 to hit $86.08 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.90% or 1.75 to trade at $90.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.51% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.54% at 105.41.
