Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 6.83% or 0.17 points to trade at 2.66 at the close. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) added 5.14% or 0.67 points to end at 13.70 and K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT) was up 4.88% or 0.26 points to 5.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which lost 5.53% or 0.53 points to trade at 9.05 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC) declined 5.46% or 0.43 points to end at 7.45 and Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN) shed 5.43% or 0.51 points to 8.88.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 578 to 426 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.52% to 13.52.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.60% or 11.95 to $2,014.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.73% or 0.55 to hit $74.99 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.49 to trade at $79.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 103.12.
