Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.32% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which rose 11.32% or 0.89 points to trade at 8.75 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 8.61% or 0.21 points to end at 2.65 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 6.65% or 0.30 points to 4.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which lost 8.90% or 4.74 points to trade at 48.49 in late trade. TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) declined 8.31% or 13.28 points to end at 146.54 and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:ATRL) shed 4.09% or 1.63 points to 38.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 518 to 443 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.28% to 17.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.19% or 3.70 to $1,984.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.11% or 1.80 to hit $83.69 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.05% or 1.84 to trade at $87.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.30% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.39% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.67% at 106.04.
