Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which rose 19.87% or 4.31 points to trade at 26.00 at the close. ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) added 10.18% or 4.74 points to end at 51.31 and Intact Financial Corporation (TSX:IFC) was up 4.70% or 9.22 points to 205.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS), which lost 8.91% or 1.84 points to trade at 18.80 in late trade. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) declined 6.14% or 1.02 points to end at 15.59 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) shed 5.69% or 0.16 points to 2.65.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 540 to 447 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.80% to 15.25.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.89% or 17.55 to $1,955.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.42% or 1.87 to hit $75.50 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.35% or 1.92 to trade at $79.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 105.37.
