Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.20% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Waste Connections Inc (TSX:WCN), which rose 2.68% or 4.95 points to trade at 189.49 at the close. Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (TSX:FFH) added 2.59% or 28.33 points to end at 1,122.93 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) was up 2.56% or 2.75 points to 110.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which lost 11.44% or 1.03 points to trade at 7.97 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 9.98% or 2.14 points to end at 19.31 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) shed 7.37% or 1.42 points to 17.85.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 663 to 317 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.77% to 17.84 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 4.65 to $1,990.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.80% or 1.51 to hit $85.25 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.19% or 1.93 to trade at $90.00 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.17% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 106.35.
