Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Consumer Discretionary and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL), which rose 4.84% or 0.36 points to trade at 7.80 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) added 3.23% or 0.35 points to end at 11.20 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was up 3.21% or 0.42 points to 13.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which lost 2.56% or 0.35 points to trade at 13.31 in late trade. BROOKFIELD ASSET MANAGEMENT LTD (TSX:BAM) declined 1.68% or 0.79 points to end at 46.18 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) shed 1.59% or 0.21 points to 13.03.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 545 to 369 and 141 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.98% to 13.06.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.54% or 10.80 to $2,003.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.50% or 1.93 to hit $75.17 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.46% or 1.19 to trade at $80.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.48% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 103.29.
