Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP (TSX:BIP_u), which rose 10.80% or 3.39 points to trade at 34.78 at the close. Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG) added 9.08% or 0.64 points to end at 7.69 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) was up 7.66% or 0.62 points to 8.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM), which lost 15.11% or 2.90 points to trade at 16.29 in late trade. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) declined 8.84% or 1.36 points to end at 14.02 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 8.03% or 1.29 points to 14.78.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 631 to 330 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.29% to 16.50.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.40% or 8.05 to $1,986.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.14% or 0.11 to hit $80.91 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $85.01 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 106.52.
