Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR), which rose 8.17% or 0.76 points to trade at 10.06 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC) added 7.19% or 0.58 points to end at 8.65 and Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) was up 5.71% or 6.16 points to 113.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 13.50% or 0.74 points to trade at 4.74 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 1.29% or 0.32 points to end at 24.50 and CI Financial Corp (TSX:CIX) shed 1.02% or 0.15 points to 14.55.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 677 to 303 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 13.50% to 10.19.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.45% or 9.15 to $2,056.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.28% or 0.21 to hit $74.01 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.22 to trade at $79.48 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.66% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 101.43.
