Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Utilities and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA), which rose 6.96% or 0.77 points to trade at 11.83 at the close. Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) added 5.43% or 1.82 points to end at 35.36 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) was up 4.67% or 0.44 points to 9.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 11.26% or 0.66 points to trade at 5.20 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 5.18% or 0.16 points to end at 2.93 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 3.52% or 0.17 points to 4.66.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 515 to 448 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.43% to 16.19.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.06% or 1.15 to $1,833.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.17% or 1.83 to hit $82.39 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.00% or 1.72 to trade at $84.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.16% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 106.09.
