Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 5.37% or 0.54 points to trade at 10.60 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 5.30% or 0.39 points to end at 7.75 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) was up 4.61% or 0.34 points to 7.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 5.00% or 2.35 points to trade at 44.67 in late trade. Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TSX:LIF) declined 4.42% or 1.41 points to end at 30.50 and Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (TSX:AQN) shed 3.32% or 0.26 points to 7.57.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 536 to 425 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.13% to 15.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 0.90 to $1,935.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.79% or 0.67 to hit $85.93 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.73 to trade at $90.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.42% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 106.00.
