Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE), which rose 11.11% or 1.05 points to trade at 10.50 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 10.44% or 0.33 points to end at 3.49 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) was up 10.00% or 0.24 points to 2.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Air Canada (TSX:AC), which lost 4.43% or 0.86 points to trade at 18.57 in late trade. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) declined 4.04% or 3.73 points to end at 88.52 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) shed 3.96% or 2.17 points to 52.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 617 to 354 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.12% to 10.57.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.64% or 33.15 to $2,052.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.07% or 0.77 to hit $72.79 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.25% or 0.97 to trade at $78.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 102.19.
