Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 6.30% or 1.09 points to trade at 18.39 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 6.07% or 0.39 points to end at 6.81 and Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) was up 5.48% or 1.68 points to 32.31 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX:SJ), which lost 3.94% or 3.26 points to trade at 79.53 in late trade. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) declined 3.51% or 0.25 points to end at 6.88 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) shed 3.48% or 0.28 points to 7.77.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 478 to 475 and 137 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 15.71% to 9.66 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.29% or 26.50 to $2,019.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.80% or 1.94 to hit $71.28 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.51% or 1.86 to trade at $75.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.38% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 103.95.
