Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which rose 18.31% or 3.18 points to trade at 20.55 at the close. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) added 15.53% or 2.41 points to end at 17.93 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) was up 5.40% or 2.41 points to 47.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO), which lost 6.72% or 1.27 points to trade at 17.63 in late trade. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) declined 5.71% or 0.25 points to end at 4.13 and GENIVAR Inc . (TSX:WSP) shed 5.33% or 11.61 points to 206.04.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 490 to 437 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.75% to 11.30 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.54% or 13.05 to $2,381.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.93% or 0.73 to hit $79.36 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.76% or 0.63 to trade at $83.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.06% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 104.40.
