Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Clean Technology, REITs and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u), which rose 8.16% or 0.39 points to trade at 5.17 at the close. Storagevault Canada Inc (TSX:SVI) added 4.28% or 0.18 points to end at 4.39 and Primo Water Corp (TSX:PRMW) was up 3.86% or 0.71 points to 19.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE), which lost 6.90% or 0.39 points to trade at 5.26 in late trade. International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) declined 6.57% or 0.83 points to end at 11.81 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) shed 6.00% or 1.13 points to 17.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 527 to 449 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.06% to 16.26 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 5.20 to $1,836.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 5.12% or 4.57 to hit $84.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 5.20% or 4.73 to trade at $86.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.70% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 106.49.
