Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 12.94% or 0.11 points to trade at 0.96 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) added 12.52% or 0.74 points to end at 6.65 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 11.65% or 0.12 points to 1.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which fell 6.71% or 1.07 points to trade at 14.88 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 5.13% or 2.26 points to end at 41.80 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) was down 5.05% or 0.35 points to 6.58.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 194 to 140 and 3 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.49% to 45.31.
Gold for April delivery was up 1.11% or 12.40 to $1128.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 6.38% or 2.15 to hit $31.48 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.07% or 1.25 to trade at $117.62 .
USD/BRL was down 0.89% to 3.9636, while EUR/BRL fell 0.36% to 4.3177.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.59% at 99.01.
