Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND), which rose 3.15% or 19.00 points to trade at 623.00 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 3.08% or 12.30 points to end at 411.10 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 2.98% or 19.50 points to 674.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Experian PLC (LON:EXPN), which lost 2.05% or 32.00 points to trade at 1532.00 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 1.91% or 4.00 points to end at 205.05 and Wolseley PLC (LON:WOS) shed 1.39% or 65.00 points to 4600.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1113 to 800 and 403 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.77% or 9.51 to $1243.21 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.54% or 0.25 to hit $46.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.31 to trade at $48.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.3052, while EUR/GBP rose 0.91% to 0.8871.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.64% at 94.31.
