Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.50% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.62%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.92% or 6.18 points to trade at 218.11 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 1.85% or 3.80 points to end at 209.53 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 1.73% or 0.54 points to 31.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which lost 2.02% or 1.09 points to trade at 52.78 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 0.99% or 2.22 points to end at 223.05 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 0.83% or 0.89 points to 106.20.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which rose 6.86% to 14.02, Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) which was up 4.95% to settle at 439.03 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 4.58% to close at 234.86.
The worst performers were DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was down 4.50% to 7.43 in late trade, Pool Corporation (NASDAQ:POOL) which lost 4.16% to settle at 324.64 and Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) which was down 3.98% to 80.42 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Baosheng Media Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:BAOS) which rose 136.76% to 14.04, Oncology Institute Inc (NASDAQ:TOI) which was up 36.42% to settle at 0.65 and Rigetti Computing Inc (NASDAQ:RGTI) which gained 33.33% to close at 1.38.
The worst performers were Wejo Group Ltd (NASDAQ:WEJO) which was down 31.92% to 0.05 in late trade, Precipio Inc (NASDAQ:PRPO) which lost 29.40% to settle at 0.48 and Hashicorp Inc (NASDAQ:HCP) which was down 25.86% to 25.78 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1488 to 1448 and 117 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1848 fell and 1705 advanced, while 161 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.08% to 13.65 a new 3-year low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.10% or 21.55 to $1,979.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.21% or 1.60 to hit $70.93 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.83% or 1.41 to trade at $75.54 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.77% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.88% to 138.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.73% at 103.29.
