Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Rubber, Marine Transport and Communication sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T:3863), which rose 6.76% or 134.0 points to trade at 2115.0 at the close. NTN Corp. (T:6472) added 5.13% or 28.0 points to end at 574.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) was up 4.79% or 36.0 points to 787.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 1.29% or 2.4 points to trade at 183.7 in late trade. Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) declined 1.28% or 50.0 points to end at 3865.0 and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp (T:9432) shed 0.92% or 44.0 points to 4727.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1954 to 1042 and 354 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.15% to 17.57.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.48% or 0.26 to $54.04 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.09% or 0.05 to hit $56.23 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 3.45 to trade at $1235.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.38% to 113.53, while EUR/JPY rose 0.13% to 120.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 101.14.
