Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Food & Drug Retailers and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which rose 5.23% or 10.55 points to trade at 212.30 at the close. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 4.37% or 8.800 points to end at 210.400 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 4.18% or 23.00 points to 573.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which lost 3.77% or 82.00 points to trade at 2095.00 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 3.17% or 47.00 points to end at 1436.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 3.16% or 82.00 points to 2516.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1184 to 1101 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.43% or 5.30 to $1219.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.46% or 1.07 to hit $42.34 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.35% or 1.05 to trade at $43.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.92% to 1.2477, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.8596.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.14% at 100.12.
