Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Metals and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.42%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 4.40% or 36.75 points to trade at 871.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.91% or 21.95 points to end at 777.35 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 2.28% or 18.55 points to 833.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which fell 6.67% or 22.40 points to trade at 313.55 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) declined 2.51% or 3.50 points to end at 135.85 and Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) was down 2.30% or 7.70 points to 327.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.81% to 777.35, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.01% to settle at 831.75 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which gained 1.39% to close at 243.55.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 6.57% to 313.55 in late trade, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which lost 2.24% to settle at 327.55 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.54% to 224.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 758 to 699 and 6 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 406 fell and 386 advanced, while 7 ended unchanged.
Shares in Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) fell to 3-years lows; losing 1.54% or 3.50 to 224.10.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.37% to 15.8650.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.15% or 1.60 to $1082.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.31% or 0.53 to hit $39.45 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.27 to trade at $42.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 66.695, while EUR/INR fell 0.60% to 72.0860.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.56% at 98.83.
