Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.63% to hit a new 5-year low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 3.51% or 0.48 points to trade at 14.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 2.77% or 0.35 points to end at 13.00 and Multiplan SA (SA:MULT3) was up 2.64% or 0.99 points to 38.44 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11), which fell 4.96% or 1.03 points to trade at 19.75 at the close. Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) declined 4.71% or 1.65 points to end at 33.35 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) was down 4.65% or 0.20 points to 4.10.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 226 to 90 and 7 ended unchanged.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.08% to 47.46.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.31% or 3.40 to $1094.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 5.50% or 1.82 to hit $31.34 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 3.93% or 4.67 to trade at $114.22 .
USD/BRL was up 0.74% to 4.0543, while EUR/BRL rose 0.11% to 4.4038.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.43% at 98.87.
