Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Food & Beverages and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.64%, while the MDAX index gained 0.81%, and the TecDAX index added 1.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRCG), which rose 2.67% or 1.990 points to trade at 76.410 at the close. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) added 1.93% or 0.350 points to end at 18.510 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) was up 1.70% or 1.310 points to 78.220 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which lost 1.03% or 0.115 points to trade at 11.015 in late trade. Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) declined 0.95% or 0.600 points to end at 62.500 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) shed 0.62% or 0.085 points to 13.690.
The top performers on the MDAX were DMG Mori Seiki AG (DE:GILG) which rose 4.67% to 41.500, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which was up 2.89% to settle at 28.435 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which gained 2.71% to close at 36.205.
The worst performers were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was down 1.59% to 12.050 in late trade, Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which lost 1.45% to settle at 42.080 and Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which was down 0.85% to 47.290 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were QSC AG NA O.N. (DE:QSCG) which rose 9.81% to 1.209, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 7.00% to settle at 47.400 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which gained 6.32% to close at 3.380.
The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 2.41% to 57.210 in late trade, PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (DE:PSAGn) which lost 1.90% to settle at 13.450 and LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which was down 1.52% to 6.401 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 516 to 299 and 34 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.31% to 22.41.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.25% or 3.10 to $1226.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 4.76% or 1.71 to hit $37.60 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 4.81% or 1.82 to trade at $39.69 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.30% to 1.1418, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.8069.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 94.35.
