Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Auto and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which rose 1.93% or 5.85 points to trade at 309.00 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 1.31% or 32.50 points to end at 2505.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 1.19% or 7.60 points to 645.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 3.26% or 6.50 points to trade at 193.05 in late trade. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) declined 2.09% or 10.30 points to end at 482.40 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 1.46% or 15.10 points to 1018.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which rose 1.97% to 308.30, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 1.26% to settle at 196.25 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 1.22% to close at 2500.70.
The worst performers were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 2.22% to 482.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 1.37% to settle at 1019.70 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 1.36% to 1455.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 896 to 589 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1608 fell and 1143 advanced, while 171 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.72% to 13.8750.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.13% or 1.55 to $1223.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.28% or 0.15 to hit $53.35 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.11 to trade at $56.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 66.685, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 70.4934.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 101.78.
