Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Chemicals, Construction & Materials and Industrial Transportation sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.90%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (L:JMAT), which rose 9.65% or 237.00 points to trade at 2694.00 at the close. Meanwhile, CRH PLC (L:CRH) added 5.46% or 97.00 points to end at 1875.00 and Royal Mail PLC (L:RMG) was up 4.95% or 22.50 points to 476.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were G4S PLC (L:GFS), which fell 2.88% or 6.70 points to trade at 225.80 at the close. Imperial Tobacco Group PLC (L:IMT) declined 2.19% or 78.00 points to end at 3492.00 and Persimmon PLC (L:PSN) was down 1.34% or 25.00 points to 1840.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1352 to 762 and 448 ended unchanged.
Shares in G4S PLC (L:GFS) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.88% or 6.70 to 225.80.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.30% or 13.90 to $1082.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.93% or 0.39 to hit $41.56 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.04 to trade at $44.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.54% to 1.5317, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.7016.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.72% at 98.94.
