Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.98% to hit a new 3-years low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (L:NXT), which rose 3.65% or 235.00 points to trade at 6665.00 at the close. Meanwhile, WPP PLC (L:WPP) added 3.36% or 45.00 points to end at 1383.00 and Carnival PLC (L:CCL) was up 2.60% or 77.00 points to 3034.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which fell 11.25% or 42.30 points to trade at 333.80 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO) declined 9.37% or 42.50 points to end at 410.90 and Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) was down 8.13% or 8.3600 points to 94.4400.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1722 to 492 and 361 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.19% or 2.30 to $1195.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.39% or 0.71 to hit $28.98 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.74% or 1.23 to trade at $31.65 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.4492, while EUR/GBP rose 0.71% to 0.7811.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.97% at 95.82.
