Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food Producers, Financial Services and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.06%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which rose 8.89% or 227.00 points to trade at 2780.00 at the close. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 6.51% or 9.700 points to end at 158.600 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 5.82% or 16.40 points to 298.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.58% or 92.00 points to trade at 1916.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 4.48% or 435.00 points to end at 9280.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 1.26% or 13.00 points to 1019.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1531 to 586 and 403 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.61% or 8.35 to $1358.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.31% or 1.57 to hit $45.86 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 3.24% or 1.58 to trade at $47.22 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.2917, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8567.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 96.29.
