Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.04%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.04%, while the MDAX index declined 1.31%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.03%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which rose 2.66% or 0.375 points to trade at 14.480 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 2.11% or 0.235 points to end at 11.395 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 1.94% or 0.163 points to 8.568 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING), which fell 2.54% or 3.350 points to trade at 128.500 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) declined 2.51% or 1.930 points to end at 75.020 and Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) was down 2.47% or 1.970 points to 77.900.

The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which rose 3.54% to 35.805, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (DE:ZILGn) which was up 1.80% to settle at 22.865 and Kabel Deutschland Holding AG O.N. (DE:KD8Gn) which gained 1.51% to close at 114.600.

The worst performers were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (DE:SZUG) which was down 3.89% to 17.790 in late trade, DMG Mori Seiki AG (DE:GILG) which lost 2.92% to settle at 37.680 and Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (DE:HNRGn) which was down 2.69% to 105.100 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 3.25% to 53.700, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which was up 2.41% to settle at 3.950 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which gained 2.10% to close at 30.585.

The worst performers were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 3.31% to 4.871 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which lost 2.80% to settle at 56.160 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 2.76% to 234.100 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 482 to 215 and 34 ended unchanged.

Shares in SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) rose to 3-years highs; up 3.25% or 1.690 to 53.700.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.97% to 22.27.

Gold for February delivery was up 1.34% or 14.30 to $1079.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.33% or 0.48 to hit $35.58 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.86% or 0.69 to trade at $36.20 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.46% to 1.0916, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.7330.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 98.45.
