Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 2.37% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 10.23% or 0.90 points to trade at 9.70 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) added 10.17% or 0.35 points to end at 3.79 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 8.03% or 0.290 points to 3.900 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which lost 1.53% or 0.35 points to trade at 22.53 in late trade. Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) declined 1.45% or 0.25 points to end at 17.00 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) shed 1.01% or 0.11 points to 10.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 240 to 92 and 31 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 6.51% to 30.58 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.86% or 11.35 to $1328.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.71% or 1.17 to hit $44.33 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.15% or 0.23 to trade at $151.35 .
USD/BRL was down 0.13% to 3.2533, while EUR/BRL fell 0.48% to 3.6299.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 95.86.
