Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 2.54%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Resources, Utilities and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 2.54% to hit a new 3-months low, while the MDAX index declined 2.63%, and the TecDAX index fell 3.49%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN), which fell 0.83% or 0.700 points to trade at 84.010 at the close. Meanwhile, Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (DE:HNKG_p) fell 1.08% or 1.020 points to end at 93.480 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) was down 1.38% or 1.100 points to 78.460 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG), which fell 5.58% or 2.130 points to trade at 36.055 at the close. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 4.77% or 0.570 points to end at 11.375 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was down 4.58% or 0.520 points to 10.825.

The top performers on the MDAX were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which rose 2.58% to 72.740, Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which was up 1.48% to settle at 30.805 and Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (DE:WING) which gained 0.53% to close at 42.470.

The worst performers were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which was down 6.73% to 19.110 in late trade, Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) which lost 5.90% to settle at 43.090 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 5.48% to 65.830 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (DE:PSAGn) which rose 0.46% to 13.160, Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 0.17% to settle at 26.955 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which lost 1.00% to close at 26.805.

The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 9.33% to 41.240 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 8.88% to settle at 9.043 and Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 8.40% to 28.070 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 610 to 77 and 38 ended unchanged.

Shares in Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.73% or 1.380 to 19.110. Shares in Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.90% or 2.700 to 43.090.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 27.80.

Gold for February delivery was up 1.60% or 17.20 to $1090.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 5.38% or 1.68 to hit $29.52 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.97% or 1.53 to trade at $29.34 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 1.06% to 1.0980, while EUR/GBP rose 1.93% to 0.7684.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.60% at 98.52.
