India stocks higher at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty up 0.88%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Auto, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty gained 0.88%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.86%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 8.32% or 32.15 points to trade at 418.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) added 8.23% or 29.00 points to end at 381.30 and Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) was up 3.69% or 6.40 points to 179.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which fell 1.21% or 8.25 points to trade at 670.95 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 1.03% or 13.25 points to end at 1274.85 and Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR) was down 1.00% or 5.80 points to 577.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 8.06% to 380.70, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was up 3.02% to settle at 211.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 3.01% to close at 4379.85.

The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 0.86% to 1274.95 in late trade, Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which lost 0.86% to settle at 577.65 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 0.85% to 87.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 811 to 639 and 11 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 470 rose and 316 declined, while 5 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 3.10% to 17.1700 a new 1-month low.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.41% or 4.80 to $1184.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.18% or 0.55 to hit $46.09 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.14 to trade at $49.55 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.11% to 64.805, while EUR/INR fell 0.22% to 74.1080.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 94.10.
