Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 2.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sage Group PLC (L:SGE), which rose 0.78% or 4.50 points to trade at 581.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Meggitt PLC (L:MGGT) added 0.37% or 1.40 points to end at 376.40 and Whitbread PLC (L:WTB) was up 0.28% or 13.00 points to 4710.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sports Direct International PLC (L:SPD), which fell 5.43% or 40.000 points to trade at 697.000 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (L:AHT) declined 4.97% or 55.00 points to end at 1051.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (L:JMAT) was down 4.68% or 133.00 points to 2708.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1537 to 567 and 422 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.45% or 4.70 to $1058.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.30% or 0.92 to hit $40.86 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.07% or 1.30 to trade at $43.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.00% to 1.5097, while EUR/GBP rose 1.90% to 0.7234.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.95% at 98.09.
