Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Finance & Investment and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 3.98%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715), which rose 12.20% or 15.0 points to trade at 138.0 at the close. Panasonic Corp. (T:6752) added 8.46% or 73.0 points to end at 936.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) was up 8.37% or 21.0 points to 272.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (T:9412), which lost 0.23% or 1.0 points to trade at 442.0 in late trade. Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704) declined 0.14% or 5.0 points to end at 3625.0 and Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) 0.00% or 0.0 points to 269.9.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1968 to 62 and 19 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.88% to 29.50.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.04% or 0.47 to $44.94 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.88% or 0.41 to hit $46.35 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.41% or 5.55 to trade at $1363.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 1.31% to 101.91, while EUR/JPY rose 1.25% to 112.48.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 96.57.
