Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Oil & Gas Producers and Household Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 3.45% to hit a new 52-week low, while the SBF 120 index declined 3.35%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Alstom SA (PA:ALSO), which rose 0.13% or 0.04 points to trade at 26.04 at the close. Meanwhile, Air Liquide SA (PA:AIRP) fell 1.21% or 1.13 points to end at 92.54 and Nokia Oyj (PA:NOKIA) was down 1.65% or 0.109 points to 6.503 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which fell 8.77% or 0.29 points to trade at 3.04 at the close. Technip (PA:TECF) declined 5.67% or 2.17 points to end at 36.12 and Total SA (PA:TOTF) was down 5.44% or 2.10 points to 36.52.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Europcar Groupe SA (PA:EUCAR) which rose 2.20% to 9.80, Alstom SA (PA:ALSO) which was up 0.13% to settle at 26.04 and Bureau Veritas (PA:BVI) which lost 0.43% to close at 17.34.
The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which was down 8.77% to 3.04 in late trade, Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which lost 8.21% to settle at 4.74 and Genfit (PA:GNFT) which was down 6.11% to 22.345 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 656 to 77 and 42 ended unchanged.

Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.77% or 0.29 to 3.04. Shares in Vallourec (PA:VLLP) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.21% or 0.42 to 4.74. Shares in Genfit (PA:GNFT) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.11% or 1.455 to 22.345.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 13.80% to 34.16 a new 3-months high.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.74% or 18.90 to $1108.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 6.29% or 1.86 to hit $27.71 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 5.44% or 1.56 to trade at $27.20 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.17% to 1.0926, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.7708.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 98.95.
