Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Financials, Industrials and Public Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 2.36% to hit a new 5-year low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which rose 14.94% or 0.39 points to trade at 3.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) added 2.69% or 0.93 points to end at 35.50 and Cia Hering (SA:HGTX3) was up 2.15% or 0.28 points to 13.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4), which fell 9.14% or 0.52 points to trade at 5.17 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 7.69% or 0.08 points to end at 0.96 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) was down 7.19% or 0.52 points to 6.71.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 243 to 80 and 3 ended unchanged.
Shares in Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) fell to 5-year lows; losing 9.14% or 0.52 to 5.17. Shares in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.69% or 0.08 to 0.96. Shares in Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.19% or 0.52 to 6.71.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 10.69% to 50.01.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.49% or 16.00 to $1089.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.66% or 1.46 to hit $29.75 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.91% or 1.05 to trade at $114.90 .
USD/BRL was up 1.20% to 4.0476, while EUR/BRL rose 1.69% to 4.4197.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 98.96.
