Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.13% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which rose 8.18% or 0.31 points to trade at 4.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) added 8.05% or 0.33 points to end at 4.43 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was up 7.96% or 2.39 points to 32.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which fell 2.18% or 0.14 points to trade at 6.29 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) declined 1.77% or 0.08 points to end at 4.44 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) was down 0.93% or 0.090 points to 9.550.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 238 to 74 and 29 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.62% to 52.24.
Gold for April delivery was down 2.92% or 36.20 to $1203.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.14% or 0.34 to hit $29.11 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.45% or 0.53 to trade at $116.97 .
USD/BRL was up 1.64% to 4.0726, while EUR/BRL rose 1.51% to 4.5372.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 96.90.
