Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Non-Metal Minerals and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801), which rose 3.72% or 10.0 points to trade at 279.0 at the close. Meanwhile, JX Holdings, Inc. (T:5020) added 2.68% or 13.5 points to end at 516.8 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) was up 2.66% or 77.0 points to 2976.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which fell 3.95% or 15.0 points to trade at 365.0 at the close. Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) declined 3.00% or 16.0 points to end at 517.0 and Minebea Co., Ltd. (T:6479) was down 2.43% or 31.0 points to 1243.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1045 to 828 and 1 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.49% to 20.13 a new 3-months low.
Crude oil for January delivery was up 1.26% or 0.51 to $40.45 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.68% or 0.29 to hit $43.09 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.15% or 1.60 to trade at $1052.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 123.46, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 130.76.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 100.19.
