Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.44% to hit a new 5-year low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3), which rose 3.65% or 0.81 points to trade at 23.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Hering (SA:HGTX3) added 3.15% or 0.41 points to end at 13.41 and Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) was up 2.66% or 0.47 points to 18.12 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which fell 15.70% or 0.62 points to trade at 3.33 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 10.43% or 0.12 points to end at 1.03 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) was down 8.00% or 0.20 points to 2.30.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 210 to 104 and 7 ended unchanged.
Shares in ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) fell to 5-year lows; down 15.70% or 0.62 to 3.33. Shares in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) fell to 5-year lows; falling 10.43% or 0.12 to 1.03.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.52% to 46.34.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.77% or 8.40 to $1093.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.23% or 0.07 to hit $30.51 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.48% or 0.55 to trade at $114.88 .
USD/BRL was down 0.34% to 4.0159, while EUR/BRL fell 0.20% to 4.3667.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 98.98.
