Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 2.44%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Telecoms and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 2.44%, while the MDAX index fell 1.56%, and the TecDAX index lost 3.08%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 1.16% or 0.150 points to trade at 13.030 at the close. Meanwhile, Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) added 0.53% or 0.490 points to end at 93.500 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was down 0.17% or 0.016 points to 9.621 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which fell 5.44% or 0.930 points to trade at 16.175 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) declined 4.94% or 0.700 points to end at 13.465 and Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRCG) was down 4.92% or 4.040 points to 78.130.

The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which rose 7.40% to 21.975, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (DE:KCOGn) which was up 0.54% to settle at 7.944 and Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which gained 0.36% to close at 46.540.

The worst performers were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 7.62% to 38.105 in late trade, Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which lost 6.53% to settle at 68.380 and Duerr AG O.N. (DE:DUEG) which was down 5.80% to 60.540 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) which rose 0.65% to 30.760, PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (DE:PSAGn) which was up 0.57% to settle at 13.195 and QSC AG NA O.N. (DE:QSCG) which lost 0.40% to close at 1.480.

The worst performers were BB Biotech AG (DE:BIONn) which was down 7.12% to 214.450 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which lost 6.41% to settle at 48.515 and Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which was down 5.41% to 12.160 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 501 to 168 and 41 ended unchanged.

Shares in Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) fell to all time lows; losing 5.44% or 0.930 to 16.175. Shares in Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) rose to all time highs; rising 0.53% or 0.490 to 93.500. Shares in Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.62% or 3.145 to 38.105. Shares in Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) rose to 52-week highs; rising 0.65% or 0.200 to 30.760.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 7.24% to 27.39.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.12% or 1.30 to $1114.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.22% or 1.04 to hit $33.34 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.24% or 1.10 to trade at $35.03 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.54% to 1.0952, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.7624.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 98.56.
