Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Construction and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.35%, while the MDAX index lost 1.66%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which rose 3.05% or 0.685 points to trade at 23.175 at the close. SAP SE (DE:SAPG) fell 0.29% or 0.270 points to end at 93.950 and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (DE:BMWG) was down 0.30% or 0.260 points to 86.430 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 3.49% or 0.610 points to trade at 16.850 in late trade. Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) declined 3.36% or 1.21 points to end at 34.66 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) shed 2.89% or 2.4700 points to 83.1000.
The top performers on the MDAX were Metro AG ST O.N. (DE:MEOG) which rose 0.96% to 30.910, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was up 0.72% to settle at 40.00 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which gained 0.48% to close at 34.535.
The worst performers were Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which was down 5.42% to 11.785 in late trade, Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which lost 5.01% to settle at 36.650 and Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which was down 4.39% to 13.170 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which rose 0.60% to 109.600, Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was up 0.46% to settle at 56.700 and Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which gained 0.32% to close at 216.95.
The worst performers were Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was down 4.91% to 12.575 in late trade, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which lost 4.19% to settle at 76.640 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 4.00% to 57.860 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 620 to 132 and 13 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 19.15% to 14.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.67% or 20.59 to $1256.99 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.17% or 0.57 to hit $49.23 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 0.71 to trade at $52.36 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.48% to 1.1136, while EUR/GBP rose 0.27% to 0.8602.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 97.55.
