Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Construction and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite added 3.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Quest Holdings (AT:IQTr), which rose 11.11% or 0.600 points to trade at 6.000 at the close. Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr) added 10.56% or 0.019 points to end at 0.199 and Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) was up 10.47% or 0.067 points to 0.707 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ThesKi Water (AT:TWSr), which lost 2.86% or 0.100 points to trade at 3.400 in late trade. Revoil Petrol (AT:REVr) declined 2.78% or 0.010 points to end at 0.350 and Intralot (AT:INLr) shed 1.82% or 0.020 points to 1.080.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 74 to 30 and 9 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.33% or 15.80 to $1175.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 7.98% or 3.61 to hit $48.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 8.39% or 3.97 to trade at $51.29 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.65% to 1.0581, while EUR/GBP fell 0.60% to 0.8474.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.67% at 101.66.
