Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 4.02% or 235.00 points to trade at 6085.00 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 3.51% or 16.500 points to end at 486.000 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 3.11% or 47.00 points to 1558.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 7.00% or 34.90 points to trade at 464.00 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 5.35% or 39.50 points to end at 699.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 3.98% or 69.00 points to 1664.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1374 to 891 and 453 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.13% or 1.60 to $1225.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.70% or 0.32 to hit $45.89 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.31 to trade at $46.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.2460, while EUR/GBP fell 0.47% to 0.8551.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.26% at 100.64.
