Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 18.86% or 0.73 points to trade at 4.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 16.24% or 0.19 points to end at 1.36 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) was up 10.47% or 1.14 points to 12.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intertain Group (TO:IT), which fell 19.07% or 1.88 points to trade at 7.98 at the close. Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp (TO:PRE) declined 15.22% or 0.28 points to end at 1.56 and TMX Group Limited (TO:X) was down 7.18% or 2.62 points to 33.88.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 736 to 651 and 227 ended unchanged.
Shares in Intertain Group (TO:IT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 19.07% or 1.88 to 7.98. Shares in TMX Group Limited (TO:X) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.18% or 2.62 to 33.88.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.69% to 19.29.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.51% or 15.80 to $1065.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.66% or 0.23 to hit $34.72 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.04% or 0.39 to trade at $36.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.04% to 0.7172, while CAD/EUR fell 0.38% to 0.6601.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.46% at 98.74.
