Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 2.47% or 20.00 points to trade at 830.50 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 1.80% or 13.00 points to end at 736.50 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) was up 1.72% or 11.00 points to 650.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 5.73% or 11.20 points to trade at 184.40 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 3.98% or 130.50 points to end at 3145.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 3.90% or 47.50 points to 1171.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1132 to 793 and 447 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.12% or 1.55 to $1275.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.51% or 0.27 to hit $53.13 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.69% or 0.39 to trade at $55.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.2496, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8488.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 100.59.
