Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.27% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.81% or 32.00 points to trade at 697.50 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.18% or 48.00 points to end at 1197.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 4.14% or 260.00 points to 6535.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG), which lost 2.31% or 63.00 points to trade at 2666.00 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 2.20% or 9.50 points to end at 423.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.04% or 31.000 points to 1490.000.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1124 to 1009 and 433 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 1.35% or 16.85 to $1263.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.59% or 0.80 to hit $51.16 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.85% or 0.95 to trade at $52.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.10% to 1.4558, while EUR/GBP rose 0.31% to 0.7834.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.40% at 93.46.
