Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Utilities and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.47% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index declined 0.90%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 0.78% or 0.510 points to trade at 66.100 at the close. Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) added 0.67% or 0.21 points to end at 31.52 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) was up 0.19% or 0.140 points to 73.710 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG), which lost 3.73% or 2.920 points to trade at 75.400 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 3.44% or 0.490 points to end at 13.750 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 3.14% or 0.191 points to 5.897.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which rose 2.34% to 29.475, LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was up 1.46% to settle at 76.610 and Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which gained 0.87% to close at 54.470.
The worst performers were Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which was down 3.80% to 39.580 in late trade, Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which lost 2.88% to settle at 22.580 and Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which was down 2.88% to 54.600 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which rose 3.50% to 7.301, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was up 2.00% to settle at 51.100 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which gained 1.43% to close at 8.774.
The worst performers were Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which was down 7.54% to 82.550 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which lost 3.87% to settle at 22.330 and GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 2.65% to 17.665 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 747 to 147 and 17 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.21% to 23.05 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.49% or 19.25 to $1307.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 3.28% or 1.53 to hit $45.14 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.24% or 1.56 to trade at $46.58 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.52% to 1.1113, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.9026.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 97.25.
