Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.27% to hit a new 6-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 12.02% or 11.05 points to trade at 102.95 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) added 4.38% or 6.05 points to end at 144.10 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) was up 4.30% or 17.35 points to 421.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL), which lost 5.78% or 7.40 points to trade at 120.70 in late trade. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) declined 2.20% or 7.25 points to end at 322.35 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 2.10% or 9.50 points to 443.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which rose 12.03% to 102.90, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 4.23% to settle at 420.55 and Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which gained 3.80% to close at 292.05.
The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 5.81% to 120.75 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.16% to settle at 1230.20 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 1.79% to 323.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 728 to 707 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 821 fell and 767 advanced, while 67 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.69% to 15.9750.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.46% or 5.65 to $1211.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.26% or 0.13 to hit $49.20 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.28 to trade at $49.67 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.27% to 67.215, while EUR/INR rose 0.51% to 74.8700.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 95.73.
