Investing.com – Australia equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Metals & Mining and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Isentia Group Ltd (AX:ISD), which rose 5.64% or 0.093 points to trade at 1.732 at the close. Evolution Mining Ltd (AX:EVN) added 4.45% or 0.105 points to end at 2.465 and Nextdc Ltd (AX:NXT) was up 4.24% or 0.185 points to 4.545 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Brickworks Ltd (AX:BKW), which lost 3.28% or 0.480 points to trade at 14.150 in late trade. Asaleo Care (AX:AHY) declined 2.76% or 0.040 points to end at 1.410 and Bank Of Queensland Ltd. (AX:BOQ) shed 2.49% or 0.290 points to 11.360.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 548 to 514 and 392 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.86% to 12.760.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.08% or 1.07 to $1262.47 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.51% or 0.26 to hit $50.87 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.29 to trade at $53.58 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.25% to 0.7497, while AUD/JPY fell 0.02% to 83.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 96.80.
