Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.10% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.25% or 39.50 points to trade at 792.00 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 3.88% or 90.500 points to end at 2423.500 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 3.37% or 32.50 points to 997.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 4.44% or 61.00 points to trade at 1314.00 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 2.85% or 12.850 points to end at 438.250 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 2.43% or 83.00 points to 3330.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1057 to 1027 and 426 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.16% or 2.00 to $1256.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.39% or 0.59 to hit $43.06 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.48% or 0.65 to trade at $44.68 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.4381, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.7881.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 94.23.
